There are many forms of book marketing (Please check out my previous posts   6 tips to stay on top of book marketing part 1 and 6 tips to stay on book marketing part 2) and audio books are a great way to market. You can create an audio book trailer or record the entire book.

Over the last three years the audiobook market has grown steadily.  You can even post your audio book on Amazon. This gives another option for people wanting to purchase your work. In my previous post Creating Your Audio Book I talk about the importance of the audio book market. Having started the process, I have some additional tips that will make this experience easier for those starting out. Please check out my 5 tips on creating a great audio book.

#1 Find a producer you are comfortable collaborating with.
The best way to find a producer for your audio book is to ask friends and associates for recommendations. Have a conversation with the producer before you start working with them. Most producers will welcome a 30 minute get-to-know each other session. Creating an audio book is a sizable investment and it is important to be comfortable working with the producer who will be creating the final product.

#2 Know the Costs of Creating Your Audio Book

An audio book depending on the time can cost a few thousand dollars to create.  Before you sign up to have it created find out how much it will cost and what you are paying for. Does the fee include special effects added to the audio or a voice over artist? In some instances, the voice over artist will accept a percentage of the sales instead of an upfront payment.  Everyone involved must be crystal clear on exactly how they will be paid and as the author you need to know how much and when payment is expected and where you will share youra audio book.

#3 Special music effects add depth.
Adding music and other special effects will enhance the audio book experience for your customers. Think about the background music you hear when you watch a movie. The background music sets the tone and mood of the story. Including music and/or special effects especially if done well will make the final product more professional than just have someone (or you as the author) read the story.

#3 Consider hiring voice over talent.
Not everyone is comfortable reading their own story via audio book or to be honest have the voice to do an effective job with their book. Ask for recommendations and post inquiries on social media channels to find voice over talent.

#4 Stick to a recording schedule.
When it comes to recording your audio book set up a schedule and stick to it. Set up a schedule and stick to it when it come to recording your audio book. Post samples on your social pages to increase interest in your book. The audio book market continues to grow. It can be time consuming to produce an audio book and having a schedule will help you stay on track.

#5 Practice and review what you are reading.
The author or the voice over talent should practice reading the content for the audio book and make not of nuances in the voice. Recording an audio book isn’t just reading the book. It is also adding expressions. You want the reader to get into the story. Make sure your vocal chords are well lubricated. Drinking soothing tea can help you or your talent get through the sections more effectively.
