Review of I Am Enough by Grace Myers βπΏ
Many of you may be familiar with Grace Myers for her role on the wildly popular television series Empire. I didn’t know that she was also an author. When I saw her book with a young black girl with a huge afro I bought it. The title of the book, I Am Enough, (available at Amazon) says it all. Sometimes Black children feel that they are inadequate. There is very little in the curriculum of schools to validate Black children. This New York Times bestselling book has positive affirmations to let readers know they are enough.
The book opens up with the words “Like the Sun, I’m Here to Shine” and the images throughout are beautiful. Myers wants children to know that they have a lot to offer and that it is important for them to respect others as well. These are great lessons for our youth.
Myers is writing a series of books that have affirmations for all children in particularly those of African descent. The other book in her series is I. The cover of his book is equally eye catching with two Black children with their natural hair (the girl is wearing cornrows with beads) on the cover.
In addition to her roles in Empire, Myers also appeared in The Gifted. She is a multiracial actress who with grew up with CODA (Children of Deaf Adults) parents. It says in her bio she was bullied as a child, and I think that experience gave her the desire to provide position affirmation to children. I Am Enough has certainly resonated with readers as she has more than 10,000 Amazon reviews.
