Fashionably Yours-Movie Spotlight

I’m always down for a good romance movie. Unfortunately, there are few out there that feature African-Americans in the main roles. When I saw the advertisement for Fashionably Yours that the lead characters are African-American I was intrigued. Fashionably Yours is a cute movie and held my attention for three reasons.

Reason #1 The Main Characters Have Depth
The main character, Lauren played by Kat Graham, is a strong woman. She has a great job at a fashion magazine albeit not the job she wants. Her gift is organizing. (Another perk of this movie was I learned several of what I hope to be useful organizing tips.) Her job at the magazine is to organize the beauty closet. She does this amazingly well but Lauren wants to write. She decides to leave Seattle and come home to the family business in Arizona after her writing dreams are dashed. Sheryl Ralph, a veteran of broadway and television, is perfectly cast as the supportive lightly maneuvering mother.

Professional mover Brian, played by Kendrick Sampson, a delicious piece of toffee candy, annoys Lauren when he eats her lucky cookie. Brian who in his free time coaches little league baseball is too busy to help her move. This sets up perfectly for the challenge between them. I love the chemistry between these two actors. They are both attractive but they have a light and flirty banter on the screen. This leads to the second reason I like this movie.

Reason #2 The Script Was Well-Written
The situation between the two main characters starts with a dare. I love challenges like this in relationships. I don’t want to reveal the challenge but it adds another layer of complexity to this story. Romance stories can sometimes fall flat because it is hard to keep the attention of viewers throughout the movie. I am happy to report Fashionably Yours will keep your attention. The subplot of the story which features a man from Lauren’s past adds another layer of interest.

I love a good romance triangle and feature this technique in my novel, What Goes Around Comes Around. My main character is being pursued by a sexy musician but before she gets along to far with him a man she has history with appears on the scene. I like romance stories where it is not certain who the heroine will end up with.

Reason #3 I love the setting
The third reason I liked Fashionably Yours is the scenery and settings. I was crushing on the magazine closet because it showcased perfectly organized beautiful clothes and shoes. The scenery and pictures of Seattle were great. I had never been to Seattle and I loved learning about the places to hangout.

Hallmark has streaming on their site so click Fashionable Yours to check out this movie.
